S3 Storage
Your own S3-compatible storage on Ceph or MinIO — or your buckets moved out of AWS to somewhere egress is not half the bill.
Included
- S3-compatible storage on Ceph RGW or MinIO, on your servers, with TLS and key-based access
- Users, bucket policies and a key per application, instead of one root key shared by everything
- Versioning, lifecycle rules, and object lock against deletion where it matters
- Replication to a second site, so losing a data centre does not mean losing data
- Bucket migration from AWS S3 or another store, verified by checksum, without stopping writes
- Monitoring of capacity, latency and errors, with a growth report and a date for when the disks fill
How the work runs
First the numbers: how much data, how fast it grows, how much is read from outside, and what that costs today. For some clients staying on AWS and fixing storage classes and lifecycle rules is the cheaper answer — then that is what we do.
If running your own store pays off, we pick the engine. Ceph RGW when you need a multi-node cluster or already run one under a cloud. MinIO — we maintain existing installations and check whether its current licence and distribution model still fit you.
We build it, connect each application with its own keys, and move the data with checksum verification. The old store keeps working until you decide to switch it off.
If you are on AWS
The first step is free: send a bill export, and within two or three days you get a written answer on what costs what, what is cheaper on dedicated servers, and what the move would cost. No access to the account is needed for it.
What we need from you
Access to the current store or the AWS bill, a list of the applications that write to it, and servers for the new one — your own, or ordered from a provider on your account.
Where this does not apply
If a few hundred gigabytes sit in S3 and almost nothing is served out, the AWS bill is smaller than the cost of operating your own store. If all you need is a backup target, the ready-made S3 at Hetzner, OVH or Selectel does that without a cluster of your own.
